DESCRIPTION: This exceptional piece captures Polia Pillin at her painterly best. The large surface of the tray accommodates an exuberant scene featuring two dancers and a horse set beneath a full autumn moon. The colors are vibrant and alive with the horse in two-toned blue, the male dancer in red and black, and the female dancer in a burnt orange skirt that matches the color of the moon. This museum quality tray measures 11 ¼” long and 7 ¼” at its widest. It is in excellent vintage condition- no chips, cracks or repairs- and is signed on the bottom. ABOUT POLIA PILLIN: Polia Pillin was born in Poland into a family of artisans and craftsmen. Her father was a coppersmith and instructed this craft in a local high school. Her grandparents were weavers and potters. At the age of 15 her family emigratee to the United States. In Chicago, while earning her livelihood in the garment industry, she attended evening classes and studied painting and sculpture. At the age of 20, she married William Pillin. While her husband was employed in the retail book business, she continued to paint in oil and watercolor. A one-woman show in the Chicago art institute received
