These impressive bookends are quite heavy, 4 lb. 13 oz. each. They are not solid brass but brass coated over lead. They are 6 1/2" high x 6" wide x 3 3/4" deep. Each one has a folded up Newark Evening News newspaper inside (I don't know why) which is dated Oct. 16, 1928. As can be seen in the photos the felt is damaged on one and missing on the other. There is a tin plate over the newspaper, one has come loose, the felt that was once there and was glued around the edge held the plate on. I love the stovepipe hat on the bench beside him. Wonderful detail.
