Primitive yellow pine, tall "jelly" cupboard, circa 1800s. Cupboard hails from Wake County, NC. It is quite tall (66.5" tall x 14" deep x 39.5" long) and quite heavy (*about 125 lbs. at least) This two-door, narrow country cupboard is exceptional in so many ways. It has a beautiful, soft patina, original hinges and hand-carved wooden toggles on both inside doors to keep doors tightly shut. There is a round wooden knob on the left outside door attached to a wooden toggle. The door still has a hole where for a key and locking mechanism from days gone by. Now the good part: the cupboard has 4 inside shelves; the top shelf is original and is pegged into the sides which can be seen on the sides of the cupboard. Cupboard is completely wooden-pegged save for the metal hinges on the doors. The additional three pine shelves appear to have been added years later (date unknown) and have been varnished, unlike the top shelf which has no varnish. The three shelves lay on metal pegs that can be removed. The back side of the cupboard is hand-hewn, rough-cut wood (see picture #8). This is truly a beautiful country piece that would look super in any type of home to hold your favorite crocks, books or jellies! Priced at $1250. Cupboard is located near Chapel Hill, NC.
