RAILROAD - SANTA FE - BOOK - " STREAMLINER" - 1941 FIRST EDITIONOffered is a very interesting first edition 1941 hardback book, titled, "Streamliner". It is about the "Way of Life on a Passenger Train" by Ruby Bradford Murphy. It is approximately 6" by 9 1/4"and contains 64 pages of a story about the MacGregor family traveling on the train. Mr. McGregor gave this trip to his son Alan as a graduation gift from primary school to high school so he could "see first-hand the development in railroad trains". The book is very well written and it covers all aspects of train trip, the amenities of the train, the stations, the mail, the cars, the hostesses, the meals, the unseen workers in an army of railroad employees, etc. Interesting facts include "a year's washing amounts to 280 million pieces of linen" or after one meal in one dining car, "they wash and dry 1,000 pieces of china"(that does not count the forks, spoons, glasses and cooking utensils), or the fact that "the Baggageman also serves as Barber on this luxury train", or the number of telegraph poles to each mile. It also mentions Alan's interest in model railroading as well, and information about that. The book has several black and white photographs courtesy of Santa Fe and other railroads. A little aging on the covers, otherwise I would consider condition as near excellent.
