RARE FIGURAL BIRD VASE JAPANESE SIGNED NR!!!

Up for your consideration is a bronze colored spelter or pewter vase with a signature on the bottom. I have not identified the artist, but admire his attention to detail!

The vase appears to be from around the Meiji era, perhaps Showa. It features a detailed bird perched on a tree stump on one side and a frog on the other. The frog reminds me of those seen on the lotus/ lily pad vases which were popular around the same time. The design appears to be not just bas relief, but actual sculptures attached to the vase.

This is not a modern reproduction. This piece is from the late 1800âe(tm)s to early 1900âe(tm)s. In America the vase would be considered from the Art Nouveau era or touching into the early Art Deco era. In Japan it would be considered most likely from their Meiji Period (1868-1912) or perhaps very early Showa. The era and style was popular world wide and the manner in which this vase was designed and constructed is also considered Neudeutsche Kunst (new German art), Arts and Crafts - Bandwurmstil (tape worm style), Jugenstil (young style) - Liberty Style - Lilienstil (Lily style), Nieuwe Kunst (The Netherlands), Wellenstil - Whiplash Style.
