These are by the famous Jennings Brothers Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut, circa 1930 to 1938. They are art deco in style and origin and they are rare to find. They are clearly marked on the back bottom with the JB mark, JB 2440. They are also marked D.C. French. That stands for Daniel Chester French, the famous sculptor artist who designed the Lincoln Memorial. These bookends are an exact copy of that poignant and remarkable Washington landmark. These are also huge, measuring 7 inches told and almost 6 inches wide and deep. They weigh a whopping 14 poiunds the pair. They have the original metal plates intact on the bases. The finish is wonderful, that mixed metals arts and crafts style. A brightly golden finish on the Lincoln figure, with a rich, deep golden bronze on the chair and cloth. Look at the beauty of these from any angle. They are three dimensional or fully figural so they look good from any angle. I can't see any finish loss at all and t is no damage, these are pristine. These are very rare, later ones were made but never of this quality or beauty. Dont' let these pass you by, they will be a star in a bookend collection. True americana at it's best. Thanks for looking and please see my other auctions for more antique and vintage cast metal bookends and doorstops that I will combine on shipping whenever possible.
