RARE Spode Butterfly Peace Plate 1970 by Cecil Beaton

Up for bid is this hard to find Lowestoft (shape of the plate.) plate that was produced by Spode in 1970 and designed by Cecil Beaton. On the backstamp of the plate is "A Spode Annual first year of the issue, designed by Cecil Beaton on Lowestoft and dedicated to the cause of peace 1970. This plate was ordered through Spode Inc. in New Jersey and it was pattern W148 in the Spode pattern books in Stoke in England.

It has beautiful design of butterflies, grasses and caterpillars and was produced on Spode's Fine Stone which is a grey vitreous body. NO OTHER ISSUES WERE MADE.

Cecil Beaton was best known for his famous photographic portraits of British royalty and for his pictures of International stars. He was an author and illustrator of books and a set designer for theatrical productions. He was a costume designer and production designer on films.

The plate is decorated by silkscreen. I HAVE 5 OF THESE TO BE AUCTIONED OFF.

Condition: No cracks or chips. They do have some usage utensil marks.
