Vintage ROYAL WINTON 4" tall Globe jug (or pitcher) in QUILT chintz -- a rare pattern in a highly desirable shape, in excellent to near mint condition. Great, great find!

This piece has the blue semi-circular art deco "Royal Winton Grimwades England" backstamp (1937+), a design seemingly used only for the Quilt and Tartans patterns according to The Chintz Collectors Handbook by Francis Joseph. "Quilt" is stamped in blue, "GLOBE" is impressed in the base and pattern number 4515 is written in gold. Registration info for Great Britain, Canada and Australia is stamped in blue below the backstamp; the Canadian registration date given is "10-1-38". Quilt chintz was introduced in 1938.
