This leather book is about 4 x 6 inches and the spine has a black label "RECEIPTS". It covers the years 1854 to 1877. If this book was numbered, t would be a little over 160 pages. Roughly 50 pages are blank and the last dozen or so have recipes for various things from whitewash to Plum Pudding. The rest of the book has recorded receipts signed by the recipient of John's money. Condition : The binding is tight, the pages are clean for a book this old. However, both front and back leather covers are detached. Part of the leather on the spine is missing for ¾ inches on the top and the bottom leather on the spine is loose from the spine. Inside the book: T are about 22 orange 2 cent U.S. Internal Rev. stamps. Some say Bank Check and some say U.S. Internal Rev. on the top and bottom. Most are dated and have the initials of the person who received the payment. The earliest is 1864 and the latest 1870. About 19 loose papers, most pinned to the receipt book. For example one is a letterhead from Thomas R. Hunt, Slate Roofer, Lambertville , NJ . Another is from the Classical and Commercial High School , Lawrenceville , NJ from 1866 (with Revenue stamp). This is for $67.94 for boarding John's son, Edward.
