From my personal collection. First time offered for sale in over thirty years! This is a rare two pound Revolutionary War era Pay Voucher dated February 12, 1790 issued to Stephen Lockwood from the Comptroller's office of the state of Connecticut. It is a cross-cancelled pay voucher which means there is a fine cancelled "X' mark across the part of the front where the name "Stephen Lockwood" and "Two Pounds" is written. As with this voucher, the cancellation (or cashed in/redeemed) mark was traditionally a very fine cut mark "X" made with a very fine point blade to give it the cross-cancelled marking. Think a modern day "exacto blade" or a very sharp razor blade for sharpness and fineness. This signed on the bottom front by the Comptroller whose name is "Ralph Pomeroy." I have also seem Mr. Pomeroy's signature on earlier Revolutionary War vouchers. It is also signed on the back. That signature I cannot make out for sure. See image #5 for close-up. My guess it is Stephen Lockwood's endorsement signature. Possibly the first word is how he wrote his first name, the second word may be his middle name and the third word may be how he signed his last name as it looks to begin with a "L" (for Lockwood?) and I also see a couple "o"s (also I'd guess for Lockwood). Makes sense to me but again not positive on that back signature. The voucher
