This is for an EXTREMELY RARE 1964 John F. Kennedy Commemorative First Day Cover, signed by former Dallas Police Homicide Detective, Richard Sims, now deceased.
Richard M. Sims (November 14, 1924 - February 9, 2012)
On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in his open top limousine as his motorcade proceeded through the downtown area of Dallas, Texas, allegedly by Lee Harvey Oswald.
Sims was the detective who gathered the three empty rifle shells in the sniper's perch as evidence at the Texas School Book Depository that were left behind by the assassin.
Later, Sims, along with his partner, were assigned as primary handlers to Lee Harvey Oswald after his apprehension. They spent more time with him while in custody than anyone else and can be seen in many films and photos taken that day, escorting Oswald through the police station.
They were with Oswald during his first interrogations, police lineups, paraffin tests, and at the midnight press conference.
