Auction D escription You are looking at a pair of highly scarce 1937 Ronson AMW Bookends, the design of which was taken from an early Art Nouveau Lorenzyl set. What is nice about these beauties, aside from the amazing, fiery cranberry red and orange finish, is that they are actually marked. This is typically uncommon for this set, and other varieties listed in the reference texts bear no markings at all. Not these, however! Both are signed "Art Metal Works," one has its original Ronson paper label, and the other has its original S.H. Hanover Jewelers tag. These pieces were originally sold on 20 th Street North, Birmingham, AL in the late 1930s. One can't help but wonder who the first owner was! These lovely dames are identified in a number of original sales catalogues and bookend reference guides, w they are deemed rare and valued accordingly, even more so for a marked variety. It is truly one of my most favorite pairs, as it has that trademark bright red and golden-toned copper finish, for which Ronson is well-known, covering the entirety of the dame duo. You will find that these nude beauties are gracefully poised with their lovely locks upswept, sitting on the ground and reading from a large journal that rests across their bare legs.
