Rookwood Pottery vase by Kataro Shirayamadana, 12" 1906 For sale is an early Rookwood vase. The 12" tall vase was made in 1906 by one of Rookwood's most talented artist, Kataro Shirayamadana. The vase is decorated with white oriental type flowers...perhaps water lillies, grey/green leaves with yellow centers, floating upon a medium bluish water background. The top of the vase is a golden yellow. The shape of the 12" vase is distinctive. The slightly squared-off, gently indented, four-sided base curves upward to a rounded form. The opening is 3 inches wide. The vase measures 15 inches around at its' widest point. The base is impressed with the Roman numeral date: VI, the old Rookwood back stamp, the body shape number 881 B, Kataro Shirayamadana's incised artists cipher. There is also an incised X visible, and a small incised w, or 3.Notes on Condition:There is crazing present as is often the case in early Rookwood work. The vase is beautiful in spite of a hairline crack visible in the photos. Luckily, the crack can be faced to the back, where it does not distract, and beauty of the piece is not comprimised. This is a great opportunity to own a large, early Rookwood vase by one of their most sought after artists, Kataro Shirayamadana. Please bid carefully. The vase is quaranteed to be as described. No returns unless it is not as described.
