Presented for auction is apair of RARE DOROTHY DOUGHTY figurines, they are CANYON WRENS. These figurines are out of the AMERICAN BIRD SERIES designed by Doughty and produced by the Royal Worcester Co. of Worcester, England. Dorothy Doughty traveled extensively through the Southwest of the U.S. during the 1940's inorder to insure accuracy of detail. This series was issued as strictly limited editions. The Canyon Wrens were issued in 1961 and t were 500 pairs issued. This particular pair was sold at auction November 21, 1969 at the Parke-Bernet Galleries in New york City for $4,500.
The pair of wrens are hand painted and are perched on rocks above stems of wild blue Lipen and deep green leaves. These marvelous figurines are in great condition with no cracks or chips. The only repair is the professional replacement of one of the flower srems which was cracked off with no damage to the flowers. The restoration is NOT noticable. The figurines stand 9" and 7" high respectively and are mounted on walnut bases that are 5" X5".
These are a rare find and will be a GREAT asset to the winner!
