RARE US ARMY JUNGLE FATIGUE SHIRT, THIRD PATTERN, DT'D 1968 For e-Bay, this is a rarity. A standard, third pattern 'Nam jungle fatigue shirt that DID NOT belong to a SOG Operative, an Airborne Ranger, a Command and Control North Green Beret, a CIDG Advisor, a Phoenix Program sniper, or a Son Tay Raider. S pec 5 Davis was just some 'straight leg' GI, not even Airborne, but he was an example of a soldier who made up probably 60 percent of the American military in 'Nam. Specialist Davis was likely drafted, didn't have the pride in being a soldier or in his uniform to spent the cost of two beers to replace his issued nylon nametapes for the more professional embroideried ones, and before being assgned to MAC-V was a member of the 1st Logistics Command - a unit whose insignia was affectionally (?) known to its soldiers as, "The Leaning $hithouse." At some point he was reassigned to MAC-V. The Army's conventional wisdom is that, "Amatures argue tactics, professionals argue logistics." As Sp 5 Davis was a member of a logistics organization for a tour in 'Nam, his MOS could have been anything from clerk typist to truck driver to warehouseman to Supply Sergeant.
