U.S. Mint Medal No. 501 Captain John Paul Jones 2.25" Bronze

U.S. Mint Medal No. 501 Captain John Paul Jones 2.25" Bronze
This medal was struck by the U.S. Mint to commemorate Revolutionary War Captain John Paul Jones for his defeat of the British frigate Serapis in September, 1779. It was a very close battle during which, when invited to surrender by the British, Paul Jones responded with the now famous "I have not yet begun to fight!" and ultimately won victory.
This medal was originally struck by the Paris Mint in 1790 and then by the U.S. Mint in 1863. This one is the modern U.S. Mint re-strike which, as nearly as I can tell, has not been available since the 1980s. Struck in bronze, it is 2 1/4" in diameter. The medal in the photos is the one being offered. I invite you to have a good look before buying. The medal will be carefully packaged for shipment in a non-PVC plastic flip, as shown. All items ship within 24 hours of receipt of cleared payment! Sundays and Postal holidays, excepted. There will be no additional charge for standard shipping and insurance within the U.S. Priority Mail shipping is available at an additional cost. See "Shipping" for details. International shipments will be made via U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail at a cost of $25.00. Please note that local import duties may by applied. These are not included in the shipping charge.
