This is what another ebayer has just emailed me about this piece: This appears to be a marker, or class lamp from the front of a Santa Fe Railroad steam locomotive. The round lid on one side would have contained two green and two red glass lenses. They would be inserted behind the clear hinged lenses to change their indication. This lamp might have been originally built with a chimney, to burn kerosene, and later converted by the railroad when electric lighting became standard on steam engines. Nice to see that it's marked Santa Fe. THANK YOU
