Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a piece of RARE Greentown "Holly Amber" art glass in the form of a sauce or berry bowl measuring 4 1/4" in diameter and 1 3/4" high. This glass was originally named "Golden Agate" and was produced for slightly less than six months by the Indiana Goblet & Tumbler Co. in Greentown, Indiana. Production began in January, 1903 but was abruptly ended in June, 1903 when a fire destroyed the factory. This limited production caused this glass to become very hard to find and to be considered among the rarest of all American Art Glass. The pattern glass body includes a design of holly with leaves and berries around the center of the sides with a beaded band above and below the holly design and it also has a beaded rim and border around the base. The original name "Golden Agate" beautifully describes the color of this transparent amber glass that has gorgeous opalescent highlights. This beautiful art glass pattern designed by Jacob Rosenthal was immediately well received and is highly treasured today. This lovely sauce bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
