A rare dated and lenghty inscribed 3 3/4x5 3/4 album page signed by Scotty Beckett and on the other Side legendary actresses Loretta Young and Jane Powell (this autograph is most likely c1948 since Jane Powell and Scotty starred in Date With Judy (1948) together)Scotty Beckett (Scott Hastings Beckett) (October 4, 1929 âe" May 10, 1968) was an American child actor. Born in Oakland, California, started at age 3 when heard singing in a lobby of a hotel that his family was staying in when a casting director heard him sing and remarked that he had a good tone and was very mature for his age he first appeared in films as a regular in the Our Gang short subjects series from 1934 to 1936. In the gang, Beckett played George "Spanky" McFarland's best friend and partner in mischief; his role was taken over by Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer in 1935 and Beckett left the series for features after that year.Beckett became a prolific child and adult actor from the late 1930s to the early 1950s. His most notable role was playing Al Jolson as a teenager in The Jolson Story (1948).Beckett's later years were plagued by a number of problems: marriages, divorces, alcoholism, and drug abuse.
