Description:This is a wooden box set that appears to be made to house a pocket chronometer or other delicate instrument about the size of a large pocket watch. It is made by the Seth Thomas Clocks Company, Thomaston, Conn.Features and Condition:The cases are in very good condition.The case is marked on the bottom:INSTRUMENT AND CARRYING CASESMADE BYSETH THOMAS CLOCKS THOMASTON CONN.The larger case is 8-¼ x 6-¾ x 5 inchesThe inner case is 6 x 5 x 2-1/4 inches The inner case has a glass porthole that is about 2-¼ inches in diameterThe base has two curved wings that bring it out to 9 inches.The outer case has deep felt padding that is custom fit to hold the inner case.The inner case has deep felt padding custom fit to hold the instrument (instrument not included).The latch on the inner case does not latch smoothly.The outer case has a mounting hole on each side of the base extensions. T are also two holes on each side of the case. These are possibly t for mounting on gimbals.A couple or random spatters on the outer case.
