This is one of the few books by Dr. Seuss not intended for children. There were 10,000 copies made in 1939 and only 2,500 sold. Because of the illustrations of nude ladies (although subtle), it was not received well by the public at that time. It was deemed a failure and remaindered. When Seuss grew in fame, it regained popularity and was republished in 1987. Because of the initial failure of The Seven Lady Godivas, Seuss immersed himself in writing children's books and was often quoted as saying, "Adults are obsolete children, and the hell with them".Th is book, The Seven Lady Godivas by Dr. Seuss was published in 1939 by Random House of New York. It is a first edition, first printing and has the original bookmark. This book is illustrated throughout by Dr. Seuss. It is all original and has not been restored. The boards are slightly dulled, corners are bumped, cover has a small mark, and the endpapers have partial toning, otherwise this copy is in excellent condition. This is a hard to find book.
