Letters From Mir Written and Autographed by Shuttle Astronaut/ Mir Cosmonaut Dr. Jerry Linenger! Mint! 1st Edition! On January 12, 1997 Shuttle Astronaut Dr. Jerry Linenger blasted off on the Space Shuttle Atlantis headed for a rendezvous with the Russian Space Station Mir. Linenger was part of a joint cooperation program between the U.S. and Russian Space Programs. What began as a great adventure turned into a nightmare of survival as Linenger and his two Russian cosmonaut companions on Mir endured 132 days of incredible peril. The occupants would battle an on-board fire, a near miss from a supply ship, coolant leaks, power outages, and other countless alarms and dangers. During the five-month mission Dr. Linenger vowed to write to his newborn son John every night before turning in. Some of the letters were transmitted to Dr. Linenger's colleagues on earth and they were used a measure of his mental health as struggled to survive isolation, loneliness and constant danger. This is a collection of those letters, largely unedited and what shines through is Dr. Linenger's deep and affection of love for his son and family. Towards the end one can sense the growing joy as the mission is drawing to a close and the time for re-uniting with his family grows near.
