SPECIAL NOTE & PREFACE: All of the dozens of carte de visite photographs of 1st New Jersey Cavalry officers presented in this series of eBay auctions were found completely untouched inside five CdV albums originally owned by the Hough family of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. One son, Robert N. Hough, enlisted in Co. D of the 1st New Jersey Infantry and was mortally wounded at Spotsylvania. However, the connection to the 1st New Jersey Cavalry comes through Capt. Robert N. Boyd, who married into another branch of the family and assembled this impressive collection of images during his time with the regiment. In the course of researching each of these photographs, the Civil War database (with entries taken merely from the New Jersey rosters) was proven to be largely worthless in terms of discovering wounds and other significant, important, and exciting information about these men. Alternatively, Google searches were conducted on each of these individuals, and amid other references and sources, the results all ultimately pointed to the excellent regimental "The History of the First New Jersey Cavalry" written in 1871 by Chaplain Henry R. Pyne.
