Signed Margot de Taxco Sterling Silver & Amethyst Angel Wings Brooch

This sterling silver Margot de Taxco brooch measures 2 3/8" in height and 2" in width. It is in very good condition, some tarnish. It is marked on the back "Sterling // Made in Mexico" and "Margot de Taxco // 5120". This is a very early piece from her shop which opened in 1948. He earliest number for silver was 5100 and the last one when the shop closed was 5790. The government of Mexico required silversmith to mark their pieces with an eagle mark sometime in 1948. This piece lacks the eagle mark so had to have been made before the government requirement was enacted. The piece has widespread angel wings with a dangle composed of three bezel set tear drop amethyst cabochons. Margot designed everything that her company produced. Her shop closed in 1974 and she died in 1985.
