A vintage, glossy 7.5” x 9.5” photograph of Tom Harmonposing beside his first plane, a B-25, “Little Butch” and signed and inscribed by him: “To Captain Hopkins, With Best Regards, Tom Harmon”; on the reverse is printed “Official photograph U.S. Army Air Corps”, and “ Puerto Rico ” is penciled. Background: Twice during World War II he was reported missing in action. In April 1943 his B-25D, “Little Butch” crashed into the jungles of Dutch Guiana, which is now Suriname, and he marched alone through swamps and rain forests four days before he was rescued by natives. Later that year, he bailed out of his P-38 fighter plane (“Little Butch II”) over China when it was shot down in an air fight. (The recipient of the photograph was Capt. Homer B. Hopkins, who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941-1945, attached most of the time to the 64 th T. Sq, Borinquen, Puerto Rico, eventually rising to Lt.
