Silver 1923 Dated & Named French Railways Long Service Medal. Type 1 (Excellent) Superb French Railways (SNCF) Silver Long Service Medal for 25 yrs Service. Official French Title ~ Medaille D'Honneur Des Chemins De Fer. Medal is with scarce train bar displayed on ribbon indicating train crew recipient. ( Recipient either train-driver or fireman) A full size silver medal measuring 34mm in diameter and in superb condition. It is complete with original ribbon and twin pin fasten for wearing . The ribbon displays a silver steam engine which indicates the recipent was a train crew member such as a fireman, driver or guard. The reverse is officially named and dated, "Jean Marin. 1923". The rim is impressed with a mintmark and the word "argent" which is French for silver. The medal was awarded for 25 years service on the French Railways. (S.N.C.F.). It is interesting to note that the recipient would have started his career on the railways in circa 1898. For information ~ This particular medal is the f irst type of a series of four, and the different types date from 1913 up to the present day. The four types are different in design. The first type was issued between 1913 up to circa 1940. The medal is allways officially named but I have seen un-named examples too. (Probabley replacements). Weight of Medal = 20gms Postage from
