For auction is another nice 19th century bench vise fashioned in the style of a blacksmith leg vise. It weighs 1.75 lbs and is overall about 6 by 5 inches. It appears to be complete. A working spring opens the jaws. T is about 50% original hatching on the jaws, which close straight and are undamaged. The jaws are faced with small welded steel bars. T is evidence of recent repair to the clamping mechanism, w brazing metal can be seen w the mounting bracket enters the rear vise jaw. This may also have been original as manufactured, since brazing small fitted parts was common. This tool is probably an English import to America circa 1850, but t are no maker marks that I can find. Perhaps you can find some under the residual grime! Shipping is $10 flat rate USPS priority.
