Up for you bidding are 5 mugs made by W.J. Gordy. They are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Each one is unique. Mugs are in the Mountain Gold color made by W.J. Gordy. He was born on May 18, 1910, into a family of potters. His Scottish ancestors migrated South from Maryland around 1790, into Hancock County, Georgia. His relatives include the Bishop family of potters in the "Jugtown" area near Thomaston, Ga. His father resettled later to Aragon, Ga., where it made utilitarian type pottery. Bill grew up around the pottery shop and by age 14 he was making pottery and by 1935, he opened his own shop. He developed his own clay and glaze mixtures and made a wide variety of pottery items in various glazes. He died in 1993. The vase is Mint, no chips, flakes, hairlines or repairs. It is signed "Hand Made by W.J. Gordy" with this marked used between 1951 and 1970.
