SOUTHERN PACIFIC TALL RED CAST GLOBE RAILROAD LANTERN. The three-piece top Adams & Westlake "Adlake Reliable" frame is in EXCELLENT original condition, marked on the shoulder in very nice letters, "S.P. Co" and is also marked with a last patent date of 1913 on the shoulder. T are no holes, major dents, or damage to the frame. The frame is all tin on the bottom around the waist area, with nice, smooth metal on the lid and shoulder without pitting. The lantern comes with the correct Adlake pot and burner that remove freely and function perfectly, still with wick in tact, with brass burner enscribed with a last patent date of 1909. The other part of the set is the beautiful, matching, correct tall Corning style, approximately 5 1/4" tall red cast "S.P. Co." globe, with the Corning logo cast on the reverse. The globe is a nice, dark red color. It is in excellent shape with no cracks or major chips, and only one small chip along the bottom that does not show when placed inside the frame. It has a couple minor scratches and a little globe retainer residue at the top with a few nice bubbles, too, all from age. It is a nice strike on the globe, and very thick glass. The globe will be shipped inside a coffee can for security. All parts are functioning on this old beauty and overall would make a great piece for the Southern Pacific

The Southern Pacific Railroad was founded as a land holding company in 1865, and helped form part of the Central Pacific Railroad empire. The Southern Pacific's total mileage route has varied significantly over the years, with almost 14,000 miles of track in 1929. By 1900, the Southern Pacific Company had grown into a major railroad system, incorporating many smaller companies such as the Texas & New Orleans Railroad and Morgan's Louisiana & Texas Railroad. They had extensive coverage in many western states, including Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, and they remained in service for over 130 years.
