Spanish Colonial Mexican Silver Plate or Shallow Bowl Presented for your consideration is a fine heavy hand raised silver plate or shallow bowl of excellent quality and condition with a beautiful patina which imparts an incomparably rich and eloquent texture. Measuring 8.66" (22 cm) diameter, 1.57"(4 cm) depth and weighing 12.70 troy ounces (395 grams) the plate is made of high quality silver of .9305 fineness which is greater than sterling. In the six lobed form with cyma border, it is typical of provincial Spanish Colonial silver work of the 18th and early 19th centuries. This piece is very similar to a piece illustrated on page 140 figure 62B in Leona Davis Boylan's "Spanish Colonial Silver". This later piece is identified as Northern Provincial. The surface of the plate has the usual plateros compass point mark and faint scratches. T are no monograms and as typical for Northern Provincial pieces t are no hallmarks.
