Offered is a useful stampless cover sent from Springfield, IL, Sangamon Co., on 23 February, C.1850's. Cover sent to Hennepin, Putnam Co., IL. Cover has MS "Paid" at upper left front and a circular "Paid 3" handstamp at upper right front. Cover has some edge and corner wear as is common with such flimsy yellow/orange envelopes of the period. There is a slight tear at lower left front edge. The Springfield hand stamp cancel is fairly well struck as is the circular "Paid 3". Overall appearance of cover is fine.Cover comes from a collection of stampless material that has not seen the day of light for many years. Based on notation on back of envelope, previous owner appears to have paid $25.
