Here we have the second fine and early Chinese antique carved and pierced hardwood display stand of fabulous quality and details. This fine stand was produced in China sometime towards the end of the 18c and is a species of hardwood but many of these early stands are much lighter in weight than the later made hardwood stands. This particular stand differs from many I have seen and have not yet come across another quite like this. The top has double spaced central circles lightly engraved into the wood and the outer most edge has a line of tiny continuous beads which are so much more delicate than normally found over top a high openwork collar that has carved ruyi spaced between tilting double scrolls. The collar sits upon a low profile apron or skirt with a row of flower petals to the top against the collar with five legs terminating into ruyi feet separating five superbly carved and pierced openwork panels outlined with raised edges with a central ruyi surrounded by a fine collection of various sized scrolling in different depths showing hand carving and file work by the artist. The apron actually flares outward and has a low profile which would have displayed a short bulbous porcelain vase or jar rather than a tall slender one.
