J. S. Taft, Keene, N.H. 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug with Stylized Floral Coming to you from Doc's Crocks, America's Source for Antique Stoneware , is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. S. Taft & Company, Keene, N.H." This is the mark of James Scholly Taft and his uncle, James Burnap who sold pottery under this stamp from 1871-1874. (For more on this pottery, see William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 39). This beauty sports the potter's stamp with cobalt wash and a Cobalt Stylized Floral in Strong Cobalt Blue . Measures 14 1/2" tall. Very Good Condition. Five chips on the spout (1/8" to 3/8"), a flake on the handle (1/8"), a chip by the handle (1/2"), a small chip at the base (1/4"), and some wear to the glaze in the middle from use.
