This is a vintage oversize 8" x 11½" hardcover book titled Tales of a Long Afternoon , written by Max Bolliger and illustrated by Jindra Capek with her paintings. It was published in 1988 by E.P. Dutton as a stated First American Edition. It has five of Aesop's fables retold by Joel Agee. The illustrations are beautifully done and the stories are well-told. They include: The Fox and the Raven, The Turtle and the Hare, The Peacock and the Crow, The Wolf and the Dog, The Lion and the Mouse. The cover is Like New as is the Dustjacket. The interior is also pristine. Thank you for looking . Story : It starts with eight animals gathering for a party one afternoon. Everyone was having fun - until the time came for the storytelling contest. The fox, anxious to win the contest, recalled how he "outsmarted" the raven for a piece of cheese. Then, the peacock recalled the "fancy dress" the crow once wore. The wolf made fun of the dog. And fur began to fly - until the king of the beasts visits and leaves them with a story they won't soon forget! The fables are woven together into a message about feelings and friendhsip.
