Through the Looking Glass 1930's Art Deco Edition

Presented for auction is the original 1933 Edition of “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll. This is the very scarce limited edition #398 of 1200 ILLUSTRATED BY FRANKLIN HUGHES! This book features Seven full page color illustrations plus title page design for this very sophisticated presentation utterly from its time. The font, the paper, and everything about the book speak of the 1930's; very art Deco like. Through the Looking Glass is the second book from Lewis Carroll in the Alice in Wonderland Books. Although it makes no reference to the events in the earlier book, the themes and settings of Through the Looking-Glass make it a kind of mirror image of Wonderland. This book is White silk stamped in silver with pictorial vignette on front and rear covers and features the original silver slip case.

The book was published by Chesire House: New York. The book measures 8 x 11 1/2” and is complete with all pages. The overall condition of this book is VERY GOOD: Tight Binding, Solid Hinges, Clean Pages, inscription on blank page, slip case missing part of the bottom edge and the top part of the slip case flaps open; overall a great copy for age.
