Rare Clay Figure 1930's Tlaquepaque Monos - President Abelardo Rodriquez Lujan ~ Folk Art by the Pantaleon Panduro Family ~ Vintage Mexican Clay Figure Tlaquepaque 1930's Monos - Folk Art About the artist of this sculpture: Pantaleon Panduro (1847-1909) was a gifted sculptor who was noted for being able to capture a persons image in great detail. His grandson, Honorato was known to follow in his grandfather's footstteps and create sculptures of the Mexican Presidents. Following, we believe this sculpture to be executed by Honorato Pantaleon in the 1930's. This is a monos figure of Abelardo Rodriguez Lujan________________________________________ Abelardo Rodriguez Lujan (1889-1967) the interim President completing a term for Pascual Ortiz after his resignation. Early in Rogriguez’s career, he was a colonel and Military Commander of the Northern Baja CA in 1921 becoming Govornor as well for the NBCA until 1930. He held 2 cabinet positions under President Ortiz. After Rodriguez became President, he instituted Public Eduction, established solid financial institutions and changed the Presidential term from 4 years to 6. He returned to private life after his Presidency and in 1943 became Governor of Sonora. He had a huge influence on Education as well as strongly supporting University Education, creating Sonora’s first State University.
