A fine early to mid 19th Century watercolour heightened with gum arabic, showing a posy of flowers - there is a rose with rosebuds, a carnation, a lily and forget-me-nots. The painting is unsigned. It is the sort of work done by a well bred and educated young woman of the early Victorian period and would have originally been preserved in an album. Condition is quite good - the colours are strong. It is painted on thin card which has some handling creasing and has gently toned with age. There are also horizontal stains along the top and lower edges (probably from a previous overmount). The reverse has old glue staining at the corners and edges where it would have been affixed to an album page. Careful mounting could conceal most of these condition issues. Size: 8 x 5.5 inches approx. - unframed P&P: UK free; OVERSEAS - please ask for quote
