Up for auction is this turn of the century GE 3 speed fan with a 16" blade diameter. Patent date,1898. Other date, 1901 on brass id plate. This fan originally had the twisted cloth power cord. It was rotten and shorted. In order to rewire this fan, the motor has to be completely disassembled. The leads from the stator are very fragile. I have professionally soldered and properly sealed connections with heat shrink. A grounded cable set installed to base/speed control. The stator had no leakage to case whatsoever, a real testament to the quality of the winding insulation used over 100 years ago. The fan runs smooth, but needs base plate cushions [see photo of base] in order to dampen any ac hum. I cleaned up the fan with soap & water, but someone in the past had polished blades etc. Something dribbled on the back of blades, that is not a crack! Of course the oscillating gear drive is missing, most likely wore out and thrown away. I've seen these fans in pristine condition fetch $600.00 + For alot less you can get this great fan thats not quite perfect, but totally safe to plug in, won't fry your kids or set the house on fire! Its heavy, 35 lbs packed and it will arrive in one piece. I lowered the starting bid
