Twenty Six Inch Antique Underwriter Fire Hose Nozzle

This antique fire hose stands over 2 feet tall when assembled. The tip is about five inches high when taken off. The tip unscrews easily and the handles spin freely. The widest end is three inches in diameter. The tip is a little over an inch in diameter.
I believe it is wrapped in seine twine, but I cannot be sure. It's not plastic or metal, and is definately some kind of thread. The word "UNDERWRITER" is stenciled in black along one side. Someone also wrote what appears to be an "H" with marker as well.
I do not know the history of this piece. I cannot say that it was ever used to fight an actual fire.
