Selling from the United Kingdom - International buyers welcome. In very good condition is this unusual, very striking and beautifully well made, genuine Art Deco period powder compact made in Germany by Rowenta, who ceased production of their powder compacts at the outbreak of the second world war. It's wafer thin, which gives it a wonderful elegance, and is surprisingly quite heavy. The shape is so unusual - scalloped is probably the best description. It has a solid brass casing which has been overlaid to both front and back with brown bakelite or similar early plastic, possibly to give the appearance of tortoiseshell. Framed under celluloid within the lid and encircled by brass is a delightful scene of a mother and child in Victorian dress buying vegetables from a man in his cart. The interior is opened via a thumbnail catch and contains oval mirror and powder well both framed within larger than average shiny borders of brass. The compact is signed Rowenta Foreign. The original oval sifter is present. Measures 4 inches at widest points x just over 2 1/2 inches. (10cm x 6.50cm) Condition: In very good all round condition for its age. The base shows mild surface wear to the bakelite/early plastic, and the interior brass shows very slight age. The mirror is faintly foggy but shows a good reflection. The sifter is intact and shows
