The Punitive Expedition into Mexico and WW1 were the last pages in a glorious chapter in the Army's history, that of the famous US Cavalry. US Army officers wore a variety of russet leather cavalry style boots throughout the early part of the 20th century. These boots are of the most widely used pattern, based on English hunting and cavalry boots. Not only were these worn by Cavalry officers, they were also worn by aviators and officers of other branches of service throughout the Great War. This pair of boots is approximately size 9 Regular, custom made by Spur and Hounds, a popular maker of private purchase boots from ca. 1910- 1919. The stitched soles and stacked leather hobnail heels show slight wear: The boots couldn't have been worn more than two or three times. In all other aspects, the boots are in mint condition.
