Outstanding M1912 Cavalry Experimental Pack / Ration bag This is a somewhat rare 1912 Cavalry ration bags. The set can be used as a backpack on the trooper or separated into two and fastened to the cantle of the 1912 experimental service saddle. It is made of heavy canvas web and is marked inside each bag with a maker name which is not legible. The outside flaps are marked US. This set is in excellent condition and I doubt that it was ever used.It is one of the cleanest one I have had and has bright colors. T are only a few minor storage marks and a few spots of light rust stains. It is complete with all issued straps. The brass parts are showing some vert de gris or white corrosion (?). The leather closing tongs are present, only one is broken off.. Please check the drawing made by Randy Steffen in volume 3 of The Horse Soldiers, page 238 for further detail on this set. This item is guaranteed original but is 100 years old or so and it shows some of its age. For that reason do expect blemishes, scratches and such defects on the items. Do ask questions prior to submitting a bid. I am always happy to provide additional information as I am a cavalry collector myself. Please take a moment to view my other cavalry items currently listed in other auctions. The shipping cost quoted is for the lower 48 contiguous States only. International
