*** We are offering up FOR SALE AT AUCTION this Sword and Original Scabbard that was given to Machinist WHITNEY J. DRAGON who was serving on the USS Von Steuben in 1918. I obtained this SWORD and SCABBARD from Mr. Dragon's Grandson who has had possession of it since his mother passed it on to him over 40 years ago. His Grandson was told that his GRANDFATHER Whitney Dragon had saved his Ship from an attack and the SWORD and SCABBARD were given to Mr. Dragon as a token of appreciation for his heroic act. Built by AG Vulcan Shipyard in Stettin Germany in 1901 the SS Kronprinz Wilheim, she took her name from the son of the German Emperor Wilhelm II and was a sister ship to the SS Kaiser Wilheim der Grosse.
