Offered for auction is a nice example of a WWII vintage Mark III US Navy Gas Mask (I believe they were also used by USMC pilots). This gas mask is in super shape - all rubber is like new - pliable, no cracks or drying. Eyepieces are excellent - clear and no discoloration. The are ellipitical in shape/style (Mark III). Manufactured by the Mine Safety Applicances Company of Pittsburg Pa. The top of the mask is embossed "USN U". Just below the mouthpiece the rubber is embossed with the date of manufacture "10 - 44" (October 1944) and "Lot 3" and "CR M" along with the MSA Co. logo. All straps and elastic bands are inplace, as is the leather center pad. The canister contains 99% of its paint - no rust, no corrosion. The canister is embossed "B" and is stamped "A 138". The mask comes with its fiber face form (which has been in place in storage - the mask keeping its form perfectly). The mask is in its gray canvas bag with original strap. The bag is stenciled "USN-U Gas Mask ND Mark I__" with LTD snaps. Case is in great shape - no tears or rips, some minor soiling that can cleanup. Included in the case are two cloth lense covers, a tag providing directions for the face form use, a tin can containing "Fogpruf Paste" and a tin containing an "Anti-Dim Cloth". A really nice example of a WWII combat artifact - they don't come much better if
