Suzanis, the fabulous embroidered cloths of Central Asia , are among the world’s finest and the most beautiful. The term “suzani”, which comes from the Farsi “suzan” for “needle”, is only used for large embroideries and not for embroidery on clothes or other object. These handmade Central Asian embroidery creations are the inheritors of ancient craft traditions. The production of a number of various embroideries of different forms and functions for bride’s wedding dowry, belongings for horsemen and their horses, and the embellishment of reception rooms was integral part to lifestyle of Central Asian people. Since young girls in the families of Central Asia have been taught the mastery of embroidering in order to follow the tradition to embroider their own wedding dowry.
