This is a large... and absolutely stunning... Vaseline Opalescent Fruit Bowl... in that tantalizing... "Cherry and Cable" pattern. It stands a bit over 3 and 3/4 inches tall... 9 ½ inches across the top... and appears to be in perfect condition. The Vaseline body glass of this Bowl is exceptionally clear... almost "crystal" like... and highly fluorescent under the Black Light. The scalloped upper rim has a very generous application of Opalescence... and the bottom is finished off with a crisp sharp "star burst"imprint. This "Cherry and Cable" pattern was first introduced to the "glass world" by the Northwood Glass Company. Northwood closed down after a devastating fire sometime in about... hummm... was it 1913 or 1931. Anyhow... at some point the Westmoreland Glass Company acquired the molds for this pattern and used it quite extensively over the years. Of course... when Westmoreland closed down... sometime in the 1980's... the molds once again changed hands. This elegant Bowl is unmarked as to maker... which is not surprising!!!... As molds changed hands over the years the "maker's marks"... if t ever were any in a mold... were usually removed. Also... at one point in time... many of the glass makers got their heads together and agreed that they would not mark their products... so that sales personal would represent... not just
