Victorian Royal Society Silk Embroidery Pansies Runner

It's summer time, inventory is tough to find, especially if you're being lazy and not looking for anything. So I've opened up my linen press and pulled out a few special things to keep my regular customers happy.

This is a wonderful runner. I can't decide exactly what it was used for. It could be anything from a drapery valence to alter cloth. It fits nicely on my dresser. It's very long, 88", without the lace. It is 16 1/2" wide at the ends, to 24" wide in the center. The pansies are probably the best example of pansies done in Royal Society Silk Embroidery that I've had. The beautiful vintage Battenberg lace really enhances the piece. The embroidery is rather fun,s omeone has embroidered the pansies right over the edge of the piece, a beautiful effect.

Condition: Frankly, don't often tackle washing these pieces, so t are a few very faint stains on this.Photo #7 & 8 are of the same stain. The bottom photo also shows a few faint stains. No holes in the linen, a couple of bride breaks in the Battenberg--maybe, it may have become unattached in a few places.

A truly fabulous find!
