This is a beautiful Victorian Sterling silver vesta case it was made by C T Burrows & Sons (Charles Turman Burrows) of Branston Street, Birmingham and then hallmarked at the Birmingham assay office in 1896.It measures 1 13/16 inches (46mm) without by 1 5/16 inches (34mm) by 3/8 of an inch (10mm) wide. the side of the lower flange carries a set of British Sterling silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1896 - 1897 and a makers mark of 'C.T.B' for C T Burrows & Sons. The inside of the cover has the lion passant and date letter.
It weighs in on my scales at 23 grams.
It is well made and completely undecorated, there is no suspension ring The base has an formed striker.
Condition is very good with a nice patination, the cover closes securely and is well sprung, there is a small ding to the edge near the hinge (penultimate picture), the seam of the cover is visible for about 5mm near the leading end (final picture). Please see the pictures.
