Traditional "Donald Duck" hats like this one were worn by United States Coast Guard personnel for decades, until they were declared obsolete in the early 1970's (what a shame, in my opinion). This example probably dates from the 1960's. Many features of the hat construction resemble World War II hats, including the linen top, oilskin sweat shield, and leather sweat band, but the frame, itself is plastic, dating the hat to a later period. The linen cover is yellowed, as one expects for a hat 40+ years old, but it will display very nicely. The leather band has been neatly restitched. I estimate the size to be about a 7 even. The hat has a nice U.S. COAST GUARD tally affixed to it, and it was manufactured by ART CAPS. It is named to a Guardsman named "BROTMANN."

This is an attractive and scarce Viet Nam era Coast Guard relic! It will make a wonderful addition to any collection or re-enactors wardrobe!
