This lovely example of vintage jewelry is known as a Sautoir. Known also as a rope or chain, it means anything longer than matinee length, which is usually 26 to 28" in length and does not have a clasp, but goes over the head, and is usually doubled. In this case, the full length is 52". This type of necklace was very popular in the Edwardian era because Queen Alexandra often wore one. This necklace is comprised of 15 elongated milk glass beads, each one with a different design in a variety of colors, and over 100 small white beads in between. They are all strung on chain which is original, and shows its age, but is totally intact and functional. T is one very small chip to an elongated bead, but unless you look for it, I doubt that you'd notice it because it's right at the tip and not on the body of the bead. This is a beautiful, very feminine accessory from the past , that is in very good vintage condition.
